1962 thunderbird white with red interior11/30/2023 ![]() The factory white melted washers holding them to the body are still intact. The glass and interior have never been out of the car. The matching red interior is still perfect. The fairly shiny chrome bumpers and hubcaps show little or no bleed through. The shiny crack, scratch, and craze free glass is still nice. The driver's vent post is complete, but with the hairline crack as mentioned above. Both windshield posts and the passenger's vent post are complete, intact, and arrow straight. Other than those two issues, there are no noticeable blemishes such as scratches, additional broken / missing parts, or cracks in the blue factory molded body. Something heavy landed on that side of the windshield sometime in this car's past. The only noticeable flaw in the very shiny factory clear coated body is a clean crack in the driver's vent post. This part was easily detachable and are often missing from these cars. Sadly the tonneau top which covered the back seat is missing. This car is in great lightly used condition. AMT used various combinations using white, black, and red to produce these distinctive looking cars. This rather unusual car (along with the 1963 version) marks the only time AMT did not match the body and interior color in Ford promos after 1959. Any color of a 62 Thunderbird Roadster convertible is fairly rare. This painted body color matches "Corinthian White" which was available on the real cars. Either AMT or Ford did not feel that the polished molded finish was shiny enough, so AMT spray painted the car bodies the same color in which they were molded. ![]() The body and chassis are molded in white. By 1962 AMT was making promos out of the newer cycolac plastic that did not warp. This car has no friction motor, so it was most likely not sold in a store. Still others were sold at hobby shops and toy stores during this time period. Others were mailed by Ford to owners of 1961 Thunderbirds to show them what the new ones looked like. These annual promotional cars were given away at Ford dealerships to potential customers who would stop in to the dealer only from the spring of 1961 through the summer of 1962 to test drive or hopefully buy the all new T-bird. This is a rare all original off-white with red interior 1962 Ford Thunderbird Roadster convertible 1:25th scale promo car made by AMT.
